Why do people use handguns for self defense?

There are other (cheaper) options like pepper spray and tasers, which are a lot less likely to kill someone.

The person gets shot in the leg to stop them form running after you. I haven't had that problem yet, kicking people in the face keeps 'em down...6 feet down to be exact.

My girlfriend is a nurse and i want to buy her something for self defense. Could there be a store near Dagupan City, Pangasinan that sells tasers and pepper sprays?

Walmart should have pepper spray! I don't think to many stores carry tasers
