Self Defense options in Canada?

With pepper spray and tasers being illegal in Canada, what can a girl do to defend herself there? I don't have money for karate or self-defense classes or anything like that and I'm not in the best physical condition? What do Canadian girls carry that would deter an attacker? The only thing I can think of would be a small can of hairspray or perfume to squirt in the eyes.

I've been a Canadian girl for 64 years and I have never had to defend myself against attackers. What kind of society do you live in?? I drove taxi at night for more than a decade and once kicked a trashy fare in the shin - not to protect myself as much as to keep him on scene until the police got there. He was beating on his girlfriend who turned and abused me verbally for defending her - go figure!

At home, keep doors and windows locked.
You get in less trouble sober than drunk or stoned so stay sober. Sober people have more control than drunk ones. If you need to get drunk or high to have fun, see a therapist. You have a problem.
As a last resort, a good kick to the shins or a knee to the groin should give you enough time to vacate the immediate area. I hear poking a nasty dude in the eyes will work too.
Some situations are harder to get out of - one cannot always defend against rapists who are determined. The smartest victim I ever saw I saw on either American Justice or Cold Case Files. When she was raped she made a point of getting as many of his characteristics clearly in mind so she could later ID him and do it accurately even though he had blind folded her. Fortunately, most of us do not have to face this.
Now that I am older and lacking the speed and agility I used to have, I have a loud, piercing whistle I carry if I have to go out alone at night and/or I take my dog with me. She's small but she is noisy if I am threatened and she would fight to the death for me.

This is not as safe a society as it once was but it is still a long way from being the worst either.

im want to get some kind of weapon for self defense and thought that a taser would be perfect...but is it illegal in the uk? i no stun guns are...also where could i get them from??

Tasers are illegal only people like the police are allowed to carry them.
