Tang Soo Do Self Defense

would you say this is a crappy system or a good one?

well, the martial arts school i am attending now teaches a base of Tang Soo Do, but basically all the instructors came from different arts and ended up here.... so while we may learn the correct forms, the correct self-defense and one-steps... we have a lot of influence from multiple arts ^_^; i go and train at my old school on fridays a lot (because i jump between my parents houses) and the difference in style is fun to see

would you say this is good? or bad? should a style be more pure?

If you have more than one system being taught within a dojo and there are multiple instructors then you have confusion. A set curriculum for any system is an absolute must. Otherwise students never truly gain deep understanding of their art form. From what you describe and if I were a student there I would chose to leave and find a different system that has clear definitions so I could truly understand it and gain ability.

Many people believe that mixing systems is what the whole thing is about but in reality if you are not at least master level in one single system and you begin mixing other arts into your training then you have a jack of all trades who is a master of none. The world needs more experts in set systems...not more mutts of the martial arts. Mixing the arts and MMA have watered down systems with no clear levels of definitions which creates all the confusion, misunderstanding and lack of proper instruction in todays world. But this is just my opinion.

Tang Soo Do Self Defense

have you heard of a style called ''Tang Soo Do''?

if so,
is it any good?
is it good for self defense?
is it similar to TKD?
what are emphazided more, kicks or punches?

please tell me everything about this stlyle

Tang Soo Do is basically a more linear version of Tae Kwon Do. It's resembles Japanese over Okinawan Karate a bit moreso because of this.

Is it any good? I would say that largely depends on what you're looking for.

Is it good for self defense? I personally would say no. It's just another art that's become stagnated in it's formalization and sportive aspects.

Is it similar to TKD? Incredibly similar. To an untrained eye, I sincerely doubt you would see a single difference.

Which is emphasized more? I don't believe there's a definitive emphasis on one of the other, that's one difference between TSD and TKD, TSD is a little more balanced.
