Best method for fighting someone taller than you? 10 points?
I am 175 pounds, and about 5 foot six approximately. I am not tall obviously, but I was wondering that since I am so strong why is my height such a disadvantage? If I can bench a taller guy for a warm up and he can't even bench my lighter weight once, why would the taller guy have an advantage? Im saying if both were equally experienced fighters or equally unexperienced, whichever. So if I'm a short guy, what is the best method in fighting someone taller? Punches? Self defense? Choke holds? I would just like to know the strategy in fighting someone a lot taller than me if im five six and the other person is six three. Also please explain why they have an advantage. Thanks for any help. Also I know a little juditsu and street smarts but just wondering all the same.
There is some god awful answers to this question...
The only advantage a tall person has is reach generally speaking, and that only matters if they know what they are doing.
Considering most guys are a one or two swing, tie up and wrestle and punch type. Not a stand on the outside boxing, using reach and footwork to stay outside type..
So reach only really comes to advantage with guys who know how to use it.
Please ignore any advice about kicking knee caps.. that stuff is patently ridiculous. I guess those people ignore that fighters take those same kicks in competetions over and over again without injury. Also the sheer idea of kicking against a taller opponent is not a smart idea.
Your major advantage is that you have a lower center of gravity, meaning in reality your best bet is to cover, get in close do your punching from there, pick the guy up slam him on his head, or slam him in general, put him on his back and keep beating him, or kicking/stomping on him.
By nature it will take far less strength for you to pick him, throw him, or slam him down then it would be for him to try the same to you, because you already have mechanical advantage on your side with leverage.
Counting on one or two shots to end a fight is a bad idea, and most of all counting on hitting small targets with strikes you don't practice regularly is also even worst. Most of the people saying stuff like that have never kicked a guy in the knee, or hit a throat, so they don't know just how hard to hit a small moving target on a resisting opponent really is, nor do they know what really happens when you hit a guy in those spots.. (if you do manage to blow out a knee, it doesn't mean the guy will drop just like that.." I have known guys who finished fights with torn ACLs, and guys who ran at full speed for a hundred yards with massive knee injuries..
Anyway, in general get inside a guy, get underneath him, put him on his back and punish him..
