Anyone ever have to pepper spray someone in self defense? Were you able to get away safely?

I've had to use it twice in the 20 years I've been carrying it.
Once against a dog that was attacking me. I was almost bit. I sprayed the dog directly in the eyes several times but it took about 20 seconds before the dog realized it had been sprayed and retreated.
The second time I had to use it on a group of drunks who were following me in a car(I was on foot). When they opened the door to try and get me in the car, I sprayed into the car. There were three men in the car. Although I didn't hit anyone directly in the face, they immediately felt the effects of the spray and left. I got home safely but the men were extremely angry that they had been sprayed. The were caught by the police when they came back down my street looking for revenge.
I guess it is effective if you remember to use it then run. It only buys you a few minutes at best. The best thing to do is avoid dangerous situations whenever you can. When you can't avoid it, have the pepper spray out and ready to use.

Is the use of pepper-spray legal in Thurston County Washington for self defense?

I need to know if it is legal to possess pepper spray inside your home in thurston county washington. I am a certified instructor through the military butI do not know the local laws on the subject. Can someone help me out.

Asking the police in your area is a good idea as laws and interpretation of laws differ from place to place. My take on the laws in general - possessing pepper spray is not the issue, its how you use it. In any incident involving a weapon, whether its pepper spray or a dinner fork , the police investigate and make decisions based on facts of the event as to whether or not charges should be laid in relation to the use of the weapon.
