I think there would be some money through the SBA. Go to SBA.gov .

Call your local Chamber of Commerce.

Get tax form SS-4 here www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss4.pdf. Print it out and send it in. This will be a business tax ID so you won't have to use your social security number - to prevent identity theft.

is there really money available for women opening a small business?

Yes but it's really hard to access. You have to play by their rules. It can be as silly as not having a separate bathroom for boys and girls in your space that will disqualify you. Check it out with your local Small Business Development Center. They'll be able to point you in the right direction, but sometimes there might not be anything they can do for you. It's a lot of footwork and research on your part. They kind of said "here's the list of people and places you can check, good luck!" So have on comfy shoes, be prepared for a LOT of paperwork and a fight. ) Good luck!
