Hi,
It's safe to assume you are looking for some honest guidance and advice.
Be careful of jumping into something that's not right for you, of course, and thoroughly check everything out.
There are lots of work-at-home opportunities, and while most are "above board" there are many that are dishonest and designed to take your money.
Having said that, some simple precautions can make the world of difference as long as you're prepared to keep your eyes, and your mind, open.
There is a number of factors to look for when evaluating a home business, and importantly when you wish to determine what's real and what is not.
# 1. Any legitimate outfit will allow and encourage you to do your homework, and in fact the most professional operators in the industry will openly help you in your quest. You should never be asked to pay for anything while you are exploring the business model. You should however expect to pay money when you get started (that applies to any business) but if anyone asks for money up front so you can explore it, turn them down.
# 2. The history of the business model is crucial. Start-up outfits are very high risk as the majority will fail in the first 3 to 5 years and take your money with them. Look for a business model with a proven track record of at least 10 years. How can you check their track record...?
# 3. Avoid any business opportunity that is not backed by a a public company. This is because by Federal law, a public company must make all its fully-audited financial records available to any member of the public who wants to look. So you can quickly see whether the company is in trouble, going backwards, net profit, what it pays its staff etc. A private outfit will not divulge this critical information, and importantly, if it does, you cannot trust it because private companies are not held to the same regulatory standards.
# 4. Seek out success stories. If all you get is 3 written testimonials on a website, run away! You want to speak to real people who are having real success with the business. Ask them tough questions and find out the details. Don't be afraid to really explore it.
And finally, when you satisfy those 4 major points, remember that in this life there is no free ride. Success in your own home business will depend on what you do, how well you do it and your attitude and mindset. Expecting a guarantee of success is what keeps the majority of people failing - they never take full responsibility.
There is enormous opportunity in the home business industry - your task is find something that's legitimate and suits you. Avoid the cowboys and the "get rich quick" people who give the industry a poor name.
I sincerely trust this helps you.
Warmly,
Slav

starting a dog walking business?
i am 23 years old and i have been thinking of starting my own small business. one of my ideas is walking dogs. alot of women around here have opened small dog walking business. i like in a decently sized city so there are lots of potential clients and alot of people who live in this city and upper middle class so they make a good income. what do i need to know about starting up a small dog walking business? if not dog walking, any other small business a woman could start up? thanks for any answers
I don't know much about dog walking as a business, but i did meet a dog walker out one day and he had about 10 dogs in the park - my dog loved it
)
We got chatting and he had his business for about 20 years. He said it's not so good now because of council restrictions (i live in Melbourne, Australia) and he sometimes gets complaints and things going wrong with people who don't like dogs - i guess people in the park and surrounding residents. I can't remember details of what happened or if he was doing anything wrong, but it's worth thinking about. I know that with just 2 dogs i own, that i run into problems sometimes with other people in off leash areas - mainly other dog owners. I imagine situations would be made worse if you have lots of dogs at once, and if they're not your dogs so difficult to predict behaviours sometimes.
Also that guy had all the dogs in a station wagon - worth thinking about transporting the dogs if you need to. I guess to make enough money you would need to do that and walk more than 1 dog at a time?
Just a couple of things i noticed with that guy i met.
