Shotokan Self Defense
Is the Woodlands Shotokan Karate school considered a "mcDojo"? I'm interested in taking classes there?
I don't know how to paste the link on here, but just google the Woodlands Shotokan karate! I want to go to a school where they are serious about teaching self defense instead of going to a mcDojo!!!!
The instructors seem pretty good.. one of them is a Doctor which makes me think he is very smart and he would have a lot of money to put into the club, so i would assume the club would look pretty nice

Jeet Kune Do Or Shotokan Karate for me?
I have practiced Wing Tsun before and found it fun but because I am a big guy (Bulky not fat) I found it difficult to cover my center line.
I can no longer keep training there due to the distance.
I have searched around and there aren't many other MA schools within traveling distance from where I am.
The only two are Shotokan Karate or Jeet Kune do, and both schools are accredited and are legit. (From my research)
What do you think I would be better taking?
I am looking for fitness, self defense, disapline and ease to learn. "Kicking arse" is Not a point I want to aim for.
I'm thinking JKD for easier self defense, but Karate for the fitness and discipline.
What do you think?
PS: 5ft 11"
16 stone
Strong upper and lower body but my flexability needs work.
Th highest I could kick is probably chest height (On a guy the same size as me)
Just fyi
I have experience in both JKD and Shotokan. JKD has concepts - not at all like Wing Chun and involves only what works in a streetfight. Original JKD is more similar to Wing Chun and may be an easy transition for you, but would still have the centerline issues. Neither version of JKD will have complicated stances and both will be effective and little focus on what doesn't work. Shotokan will have more forms, more stances, more discipline and some focus on tradition rather than what is effective - not that what you will learn will be ineffective - that's just not the reason why you learn particular moves - you learn them because that is what is needed for rank. Shotokan will also have more focus on strength and power - that was my experience.
JKD has no such thing as black belt - usually you are a student, assistant teacher or teacher.
Shotokan has belts and titles like Sensi and Master. Depends on what sounds more interesting, neither style will focus on high kicks.
