Self defense for young woman going away to college?
I am moving away to college by myself and have arranged to rent a room from a family. I have no reason not to trust them; I've spoken with them on the phone and e-mailed numerous times, received several photos of the property, and looked up public records to ensure that the house really is theirs. However, I will be traveling alone and can't make a trip in advance to meet them beforehand. Are there any precautions I can take to stay safe, or things I can do in case I need to make a quick getaway? I am planning on taking a taxi from the train station to their house instead of having them pick me up, will be carrying pepper spray, and plan on keeping a little food, cash, and important documents in my backpack, which will stay with me.

Have a cell phone at all times, keep some mace and invest in a tazer
