Where can I learn some practical self defense moves?

I live in the higher Foothill region in San Fernado Valley. There are no martial art studios around and none of my friends know how to defend themselves either. Can someone give me some advice where I might get some guidance or better yet is there a site that teaches some important moves step by step for dummies basically?

www.expertvillage.com there are some great vids there by real experts teaching you defence.

Unarmed combat training?

Hi! I was wondering how I could learn unarmed combat skills. Essentially military training, just without the military. Things like disarms, submissions, take-downs, etc. All the techniques I want to learn and practice are already laid out, all I need is a way to practice them. So my question is: What is the best way to practice these moves? Do karate studios offer a simple sparring program? Should I get a grappling dummy? In other words: What's the mot efficient way to practice military grade combat techniques?

(No, I don't want to attend civilian "classes". I don't want to learn competition techniques for controlled environments. I'm looking for a no-nonsense way to practice self-defense maneuvers if every caught in a do-or-die situation. No, I don't want to go out a kill someone. Purely self-defense.)

Please spare the "you're so stupid" comments. If you can't help me, please don't comment.

You're awesome for reading and thanks in advance!

Overall the best choice is probably Krav Maga. Its the Israeli military's self defense system and it is very brutal and effective. Kajukenbo is another extremely serious and brutal martial art but it is more rare due to the severity of the training.

Disarms- Krav Maga, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido
Submissions- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Catch Wrestling, Judo
Takedowns-Wrestling, Judo

Just go and research some of these and look for training centers near you. Good Luck.
