Self Defense Strategies
What are some risks involved with issuing open challenges via internet to groups or styles in martial arts?
I've only seen it once so far, but it makes me cringe. I teach self-defense, strategy, and tactical solutions. I feel this issuing of open challenges is a dangerous thing to do, especially through internet media. Thoughts?
I agree; it is cringe-worthy. I have thought about leaving my location available for people if they wish to contact me for instruction, or just to get together and exchange ideas and work out. Then I thought again of the people that could come across that information and try and cause harm, so I decided against it.
I also think that it is morally reprehensible when considering the impact challenging somebody may have on a younger more impressionable crowd. We are role models when in the public eye especially and the internet is widely populated by young children who will take what they see and hear and attempt to imitate it.
EDIT- @ doctor, people are indeed that crazy nowadays. A few years ago I heard of a person who looked for people via chatrooms and killed them. Pretty unnerving.
