What are the gun laws/self defense laws in the UK (primarily Ireland)?
I am thinking of moving to Ireland for a couple years, and am wondering what their gun laws are. I live in the US, and throughout enjoy my right to bear a firearm, and keep on for self defense. I have had a knife pulled on me before, and sadly had to use it to protect my life and that of my fiance.
I am just wanting to know what the laws are in the UK. Also, if firearms are not allowed, what is? Could I have pepper spray, a knife, baton, etc? And, what are the self-defense laws in the UK? Will I get punished for defending myself from being robbed? I know some states in the US will require someone to run from a criminal before they can defend themself....which I don't see the point of that...you should be able to stand your ground and not be afraid of someone wanting to take something from you.

Is it illegal to use self defense when being robbed in the UK?
In America I've heard you can have pepper spray, firearms and beat someone up if they're in your home stealing, and even kill if they're holding a threat to your life in their hands.
I know I'm from the UK myself and it seems stupid I don't know this, but do those same rules apply here? Or not?
