Anyone have a Kubotan?

I just went to a self defense seminar and received a key chain Kubotan.

I have four and I prefer the aluminum ones as they have a little more weight to them but not so much that they slow your strikes down and the hardness and more substantial feel of them really makes wrist-locks and controlling techniques more painful on the other person and more effective than the hard plastic ones and they have a diamond cross cut that keep slippage to a minimum. Just don't leave the aluminum ones in the sun in your car as they get pretty hot and will burn your hand when you pick them up to put in your pocket.

I recommend them for all my female students as their purses are usually large enough to carry one; they are great for making facial strikes and strikes to fleshy areas like the groin and stomach more effective and the use of your keys as a weapon. Most women being smaller and weaker than their male attackers need to be able to strike these areas with something like this in order for those strikes to be maximally effective.

Recommendation for Krav Maga training in area?

I've got an extensive background in martial arts but recently I've been very interested in supplmenting with Krav Maga for some realistic self defense. Can anyone reccomend a respected and legit program or seminar in the New Jersey or New York City area? I've done a lot of research on line but it seems like every guy has some sort of scandal or controversy around them.

With Krav Maga you will always have some scandal no matter what because it was founded without verifiable proof from the guy who claims to have invented it.

I attend KM seminars all the time and although there are some great ones in your area you will need to weed out who and who you do not want to train with through experience. Here is a list of some of the KM seminar people I have trained with that were good -

Moshe Katz, Alain Cohen, Darren Levine and Moni Aizik

That being said the most recognized and best one was Darren Levine but you have to be able to tolerate his bashing of other systems.
