Is it legal to carry pepper spray in your car in California?

I know you can possess pepper spray for self-defense purposes in California but I'm not sure if you can keep it in your car for the same reason. I don't want to get in trouble for having a concealed weapon in my vehicle and I don't absolutely need it with me but out of curiosity, does anyone know if that is illegal?

MY Husband is a CA cop I asked him this. His response was: It is legal to carry it in your car, pocket, or pursue. As long as you signed the paper saying you know it is harmful and caustic.
