Whats your one gun home defense?
In Iraq you can have only one gun for self-defense. What would your surplus gun be? ak47? old 12ga shotgun? Rpd? remember it has to be something native to the country.
I would have a aks-74u 5.45x39mm short barreled assault rifle with a sling, 45rd magazines ( if I could find any), and a large flashlight like the kind you buy from wal-mart with the over sized battery and top carrying handle tied to the bottom of the gun for night defense.
like your choice, low recoiling select fire assault rifle in the same caliber. but no flashlight, I'll have a large compensator and flash suppressor though. I'd get as many 40 rd hi capacity (that's above standard factory capacity) magazines as possible, and 5.45x39mm SP ammo.
Mine is simple. a AK74 under folding stock assault rifle and swap out the standard barrel for a 9.5" krink one.
If I live in a big house with room to use a bigger gun, a CETME .308 select fire rifle will do. non-folding stock and some imported aftermarket 100 round dual drum magazines. Pricey mil-spec .308 SP rounds modern manufacture will be the ammo I use, its not gunky like the cheaper stuff and SP bullets has better performance than FMJ bullets. I'll had a box of 50 regular 20 rd magazines too. And a hefty muzzle brake to increase control. To deal with attackers in vehicles I'm sure I can get some AP steel core (or harder) .308 ammo, three 20 rd magazines at the least, I could probably hole a couple engine blocks with that.
A CETME is probably a little above what the average Iraq citizen may choose, but i know its available there. .308 is a NATO cartridge (as 7.62x51mm), so there'll be guns from other past military events and such. its much more power than the AK47 has by a good deal, not a top choice for most people there. However apparently a popular choice for people in the US to defend their homes (or SHTF gun) with.

What is the best self defense ammo in .40 S&W for a Glock 22?
I have a glock 22 and want to have a just in case magazine loaded with the best self defense ammo in case I hear something go bump in the night. Speer gold dot and Hornady critical defense seem to keep coming up in searches. I DON'T live in NJ so hollow points are OK. Please state grains too, I see slightly lighter loads seem to have higher muzzle velocities and energy, Thanks so much!
Big heavy hollow points in almost any good well known name brand well work and gold dots are a good choice.
Shot placement is critical with any ammo. If you miss no ammo will help you.
