Nebraska Self-Defense Laws?

My little brother was just recently charged with assault. What happened was a group of people that don't like my brother, ran up to him, and one of them pushed my brother and told him to fight. So he did. He was beating the other kid, and then 2 other people from the group jumped in. My brother tried to run, but they were too much. He came home, and told my parents, so they Pressed charges. We got a call a day later, saying that my brother, along with all the others had charges of assault. They say that self defense has no relevance if it's not in the victim's home. I've read laws and it's true, the laws say that you can defend yourself if somebody is in your house threatening you. So I wanna know, If we take this to court, Can we win for self defense?

I need to know the laws regarding self defense. If an attacker is trying to steal your purse, and you don't

know what he is doing you think he is going to kill you, and you shot him in the back, front wherever. Is that considered self defense? Keep in mind you have your concealed weapons license.

If this person just takes your property without saying I am going to kill you. And doesn't have a weapon then you can't shoot and kill them. You can protect your life not your property.
