In plain English, if you feel you are threatened you can use whatever means necessary to defend yourself, up to and including deadly force.
Be prepared to defend why you did it, though.

ohios self defense or assault law for minors?
Theres a kid thats probably going to end up trying to fight me and i was curious about a few things.
First off, if i were to get jumped by him, is that considered assault? and if it is what is the penalty under the law and would i be able to sue him?
Second, if he didnt jump me and just decided to confront me face to face, what is the law on self defense? I want to avoid any legal penalty and any school penalty, while still being able to clearly prove that i was merely acting in self defense.
If he jumps you, it's assault. You can press charges and he can end up with something as serious as serving time or probation and likely a restraining order. If he confronts you face to face but then ends up fighting you anyways, as long as he was the instigator, then that is still assault, you can still press charges. Your parents can sue his parents for the cost of medical bills, damages to property, etc.
If he is threatening you with bodily harm or if he is verbally attacking/berating you...that's harrassment as well. Your parents can indeed sue for that or even press charges.
