Self Defense In The Bible

Christians, Is self defense Justified?

I've noticed a lot of christians on this site differentiate between "killing" and "murder" in some of my earlier questions; suggesting that, say, a war is justified if it is in self defense.

Well thats interesting. Here is what Jesus said about self defense: (Matthew 5:38):

"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

How can a bible-reading christian so ignore the commands of their own holy book? Which way do you "re-interperet" (rewrite) your own bible this time?
Eschol, are you kidding me? the sword in that passage had nothing to do with defense or assault, but probably with slaughtering a lamb or something.

So you think that if someone came into my house ready to steal kill & destroy, that I should just let that person do this to me & my family?

War is justified, because there are evil people who want to destroy you & your country. Should we just let evil people destroy our children & our country?
