What style of self defense focuses the most on combat?

It seems Karate is focused more on meditating and balance rather than combat techniques. ( Of course I'm just speculating) For anyone who actually does Karate, Kendo, Krav Maga, can you please tell me how you like it and what you learn?

What combat/self defense?

Im current considering joining a self defence class of some kind, but Im stuck for what kind of class what suit me. Im in my 20s and male, and although I feel I can "look after myself", its good to know that one really can! I'm not looking for something too complex where only years of training will produce practical results. So something easy to learn with real practicalities sounds like something for me... Help please guys..

I'd say that these days, unless you have a particular passion for a historic discipline, youd'd be best off at a good MMA (mixed martial arts) class.

Although most of these are geared towards competitive fighting rather than self-defence, the techniques you learn will be useful and far more practically-oriented than most 'single' disciplines.
MMA classes incorporate aspects of a variety of traditional martial arts, although the particular emphasis can depend very much on the background of the instructor.

MMA is very definitely not about grading or historic traditions, and you sound as thought it would appeal to you

As ever, do shop around. Most places will be only too happy to let you have a trial class for free. I'd always suggest that you try as many as you can before deciding where to invest your time and money.
