Is Aikido an effective/ legit martial art when it comes to Real life self defense?

ive been doing BJJ for some time. I love BJJ. I love to roll. I'm proud to be a BJJ practitioner. But recently aikido has been catching my attention. I saw some vids on the internet about martial art masters combining Aikido and BJJ. They really go well together. They share similar philosophies.

Do think Aikido is effective in real life by itself?

And do you think it can co exist with my BJJ???

The aikido dojo also teaches Shotokan .But in order to take Shotokan i have to take Aikido aswell. if i enroll in this dojo i will learn Aikido+Karate and the BJJ i already do.

BQ; Is a combo of Shotokan, Aikido, and BJJ deadly when it comes to self defense???
this is the ONLY dojo close where i live. Im not interested in muay thai, boxing, wrestling etc

First thoughts are that it seems to be an odd requirement - to take aikido as a requisite for Karate. However, I'm guessing that their philosophy is to learn defense before offense. While Karate has good defense, Aikido's defense mechanisms will get you out of confrontations AND the courtroom a lot easier than the harder styles of Karate. Also, in Aikido, if you get good instruction, you will not only learn defense, but you will also learn about the science of being attacked. Finally, while most of the harder styles of MA are good for offense and defense, they mostly tend to fall short when the defender is weaker than the offender. In Aikido, one's own strength is irrelevant and that can level the playing field.

Aikido is a wonderful art, but as has been pointed out, it will take time before you become proficient and confident.

Requirements for getting a handgun in CO?

I am trying to get a pistol for self-defense. What are the requirements for a handgun in CO and what pistols (preferrably cheaper) are good budget to get?

Here is a link to the requirements in our state:

http://www.rmgo.org/faq/#Brady and page down to "Brady Registration Checks"

As far as what gun to get: You should try some at a local range (Such as The Shootist in Englewood) and see which caliber you can handle the best. I wouldn't recommend anything less powerful than .38 Special or 9mm for self protection. There are literally hundreds of guns to choose from, so you need to find the one you can shoot the best.
