Self Defense Classes Women
women's self defense class?
i would like to take my 2 nieces and my self to a women's self defense class. i live in Orange County CA. i want a class where they teach how to use pepper spray and some maneuvers incase there are attached. i tried looking on-line, but all i can find are karate classes. i want something different, like teaching them what to do and how to survive if something terrible were to happen. any info u have or websites would be very grateful!!!
I think this will be helpful.

Looking for a women's self defense class?
I live in Omaha NE and want to find a women's self defense class. Any recommendations?
I teach women's self defense as a community service. I also teach elderly, disabled, and children for free. I have found, in my experience, anyone selling self-defense to be dubious. I always recommend a woman wanting to learn self-defense contact the local police training officer and ask them who they recommend.
The best sources for women's self-defense are from people who have professional experience dealing with violent offenders in their jobs; corrections officers, veteran police officers, ex-military with combat experience, bounty hunters, and mental institution orderlies are some very good sources of self-defense.
The challenge is to find them and then build enough of a relationship to where they want to train you in the appropriate self-defense methods. Hopefully there are people in your area who, like me, are passionate about providing a service for the safety and well being of their community rather than make a profit off selling what they know.
Sometimes field workers in Social Work who deal with Children's Protective Services know good resources for women's self-defense. Anti-domestic violence organizations sometimes know where to send people for training, but just as often they are so against any forms of violence they don't know anything about self-defense.
Contact the F.L.A.G. (Fight Like a Girl) organiztion through facebook to see if they have any contacts in your area.
R.A.D. (Rape Agression Defense) is also another non-profit women's self defense organization often hosted by campus police organizations.
Other possible sources of good information are the local newspaper (call or e-mail the editor) or the local T.V. news (call or e-mail). They often do women's self-defense stories throughout the year and keep an archive of those stories.
