Do you think self defense is important for women?

I want to take a self defense class in jiu jitsu, but my boyfriend and my mom think I should take a class to further my education instead.

Why, they are women? They should be cooking or cleaning or having babies, and if a man wants to violate her, then it is his right As A MAN to do so. Women have no say, they're WOMEN!

What is a good movie that shows women using self defense to protect themselves?

I am taking a self-defense class...We have to watch a movie that has a scene with a women using self defense. The teacher said some people have watched 'Enough' with J Lo....Is there another movie anyone knows that has a women defending herself in? I have to rent it....So I need a movie that is out on DVD....

This won't help you much, (well, it might if it is just a scene you need) but I just had to drop in my two cents because I was just discussing the scene from "Bringing Down the House" Queen Latifah and the sister in law are kicking each others butt in the dressing room and Q.L. does a move and says, "compliments of the streets" or something, then the sister in law does a move and says, "compliments of Tae Bo- it had me cracking up as I am a big Tae Bo fan (for exercise not self defense) but either way it was a hoot- especially since the moves were authentic Tae Bo and you did not expect the skinny white girl to be much of a challenge for Q.L. but she was.

I cannot think of any others right now but kudos and big thumbs up to you for taking self defense classes- hope you never have to use it!
