self defense classes for women?

are they really useful in real situations? most guys won't spar with women full out,will i learn to really defend myself? i'm curious because now that i live alone i want to learn to defend myself but i don't want to waste my money. thanks...... if you need to know, i'm 22 years old, 5'1 and skinny

In a real life self defense situation, you're not going to want to have a drawn out fight with your attacker. You will want to stun him and then get away as fast as you can. Ask to sit in and observe a class before you give them any money. Most self defense classes I've heard of are pretty good at teaching basic defense skills to get someone away from their attacker. I would look into it.

Is it okay for a guy to take a self-defense class?

I've been reading and it seems only women take self-defense classes and that men usually take it because they are the "dummies" and get tested on. I enrolled in a self-defense class and I am having second thoughts. Thanks.
Yeah if i ever get in a fight or when i was just "play fighting" everything i do is basic instinct. and id like to learn
more guy's point of views would be nice

go for it! I don't see any real difference in this and some other type of martial arts. Maybe you could even pick up some ladies??
