Focusing Chi for defense, protection, and relaxation?
I am fully aware that chi is not to be used as a matter of destruction or harm, but as relaxtion technique and defense principle. I am 16 and 5'10". I would like to learn to focus my chi, to tolerate less pain, become a happier person, and be more relaxed. If you know of any websites, articles, or self advice, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Hard stuff to learn about from reading. You need an instructor.
If you want to relax, try Yoga or Tai Chi.
If you want to learn self-defense, try an Okinawan Karate style that teaches pressure point techniques.
I have seen some pretty awesome chi techniques for defense, and some ARE very destructive.

Benefits of training for defense?
Was just reading more articles on the high likelihood that disarming techniques, against a knife or especially a gun, will fail, and that you are still likely to be injured, so then what is the purpose of training for self-defense? Assuming that you can already fight, what are the benefits of training for defense?
Thank you.
The benefits are thta at least it gives you a chance at survival. If I am confronted with a knife or gun from somebody that wants my wallet, etc. you can damn well bet I am going to give it to them. I cannot carry enough money to be worth my life.
Also how can you be trained to fight and not study for defense? This statement makes no sense. Unless you are talking about training to street fight.
I also have a question and a scenario. You have two people, one who trains at a MMA gym, say your average amature, who has only trained at the MMA gym. Second you have a traditional martil artist that has the same experiance, but has some training in fighting a armed attacker.
Put them on the street against somebody with a knife that knows how to use it. Who has the advantage? Will both be able to defend themselves equaly? That is not to say that the MMA person cannot defend themselves at all, because it still takes a commitment and discipline. Any time you are dealing with a weapon you will be injured, but quite honestly unless you are so much better then the other person you will get hurt in a unarmed situation. training in both traditional and MMA also teaches you to deal with pain and fight through it.
My question is if training can help you walk away with an injury vs being dead, isn't it worth the time you put in?
