Real Self Defense

.357 glock for self defense, will bullets go through a person in a real gun fight?

I bought this gun awhile back and luckily have not had to use it, just have used it for target practice, but in the case I get in a bad situation, my concern is that the bullets may go through the person I am shooting and perhaps hit an innocent victim. I have it loaded with 124 grain Hollow point bullets. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Yes they can. Hollow points will help to prevent this. Full Metal Jackets are the most likely to do it.

If you were in a real self defense scenario, would you block attacks?

personally id probably just keep swinging lol

well i don't mean like self defence, like fighting for you life, i just mean in a non sparring fight

Absolutely. I'll tell you why.

When most people think of self defence, they think of evil mugger who is going to stab you, or big man who wants to make you his prison bitch or 5 guys jumping you. Those are the most extreme forms of self-defense situtations and in those situations you probably do not want to block.

But what if it is a situation where a friend or a relative has a mental problem (either a mental illness or a temporary lapse into supreme stupidity)? Do you only want to strike that person then? You say you'd knock your brother's or sister's or uncle's teeth out because you don't care, right? Oh do you really! Probably not.

What if you are being attacked at work by someone you know you can beat? Why not block or parry that person's punches or kicks?

If you cannot block punches it is because you are too slow. It is not karate's fault, or taewondo's fault, or boxing's fault, or kung fu's fault, or jujitsu's fault, it is YOUR fault. You need to be faster. You need to be fast enough to block punches. And it will take years for you to get to be that fast, but if you keep practicing, you will get to be that fast.

You may be attacked by someone who would hurt you if you did nothing, yet is a person that you still have no business fighting because you clearly outclass him or her. Men, you should probably block women's blows even if she is built like a monster truck. It will save you time and legal trouble.

I have been attacked by the following people types who would have hurt me yet probably caused me to go to jail if I actually fought them as an equal:
a) inlaws
b) drunk/high chicks
c) teeneagers feeling their manhood
d) mentally ill people

Most people who are going to punch you are not going to be as fast as a Tyson, Bruce Lee, Muhammed Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Yip Man, etc., etc. If you practice hard enough, you can get to the point where you could block 99% of the punches from the people who would attack you. Why? Because the people who truly have punches that are impossible to block are probably NOT going to attack you. They have better things to do. Now if you are stupid enough to pick a fight with a professional fighter and wonder why you could not block his or her punch, well, that's still your fault. If Brock Lesnar cuts you off in traffic, why mouth off to him? Remember those people who were stupid enough to challenge Mike Tyson in road range incidents? Sometimes you need to let minor offense go.

One of my children got attacked by another child that carried a stick. He blocked. All he got was one scratch. He defended himself without getting in trouble. The same psycho stick wielder attacked another kid. That victim ended up needing medical help.

Blocking works. Why else is it in all of these styles of martial arts if it has no value? So what if your blocks are slow right now. Keep practicing them while working on bobbing, weaving and dodging.

Some of you all listen way too much to the practical application folks. Where do these folks get their applications if not from traditional martial arts? They're just like rock and rap musicians who see no value in jazz or classical music.
