Psychological Self Defense

What's it called when somebody's in denial of what they did is wrong?

For example, if you or somebody you know died in a war, you will never admit the war was for nothing worthy or unjustified. Even if it was explained to you in the most simply way that you'd normally accept this fact.

Is there a psychological term for this syndrome of self defense attitude?

Being in denial of what you believe after you've put all your life into something.
No it is not as simple as delusional or in denial, there's a defensive term for it.

I think the term here really is called "Cognitive Dissonance," an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously.

As a result of such dissonance, the person can become subject to rationalization by "Self-deception." This is a subconscious process in which a person, in their own mind, attempts to explain away unpleasant realities by constructing logical justifications to convince themselves of a more pleasant one.

When such a person expresses themselves, they truly believe what they are saying, and will not show tell-tale signs of lying, because they aren't. Lying is deliberately telling falsehoods. A person in such a state of self-deception is really trying to convince themselves when they speak of the subject. Convincing others of their view of reality serves to bolster their own resolve.

Another example of this behavior is in child molestation victims when they become adults. A certain percentage of such victims will rationalize that their victimization was a consensual act (or even that they deserved it or caused it), and that it was not harmful to them. They bury the reality of what happened deep within while maintaining consciousness of it's occurrence, but denying it's affect on their adult life (e.g. interpersonal problems and/or mental illness). To do so is to face the horror of what happened. And so they deceive themselves about the impact of that past event.

Is any one else a higher thinker like me?

Is there any body else out there that has wondered what they are because of how they think? Analyze everything far beyond how any one else analyzes? Different views than most people? A thinker? Socially, philosophically, political, psychological? Anybody that tries to figure this world and the universe out. I feel so lonely because of how I think, theres no body I can relate to and whenever I express my self, people turn their defense mechanism on me or they just dont understand.
Please if any body would like to chat on AIM, my screen name is citystarsbordco.
Thank you guys so much. You have no idea what this means to me. Reading all of your comments feels like home.
