Is Ninjitsu good for practical self defense situations ?

It's very difficult to find Ninjitsu school , is it not a very popular art anymore ?

It's difficult to find a real Ninjutsu school because the last remaining person who could swear any Ninja blood in him died in the 60's with no children and students.

The thing is that Ninja and their arts have not been practiced or effective for over 500 years. For many Westerners (which I assume you are), the idea of the mysterious and deadly Ninja is marketed as a way to cash in on foreign ideas of the mystic East.

Go to Japan and you'll see Ninja "Theme Parks" with Disneyland style performers staging choreographed battles. That is the state of Ninjutsu. Any true stealth practitioner or modern equivalent to the Ninja are guys like SWAT or Navy Seals. You want to be a Ninja? Join up with them.

Many "Ninjutsu" schools are just a mish-mosh of existing Japanese arts done in black Gi to entice anime and video game loving Americans and while they may not be the worst schools available, you could certainly get more pure, focused training around a school that doesn't center or market itself around the Ninja gimmick.

(P.S.-If you are learning things like Shuriken throwing, bo/staff, sword, you are not at a practical school.)

can we learn self defense on our own using the internet etc.?

i am interested in learning self defense techniques to protect myselves during street fights, brawls etc. i dont want to learn any martial arts, just the simple and practical self defense techniques which we can use when required.

You can learn the history and linage and all about the art form you want to study on the internet but you cannot take lessons and learn actually how to do it from the internet properly.

Most will just get you hurt and leave you with a false sense of security that you can protect yourself. If you want to learn Self Defense and not a full Martial Arts, then look around and see who is offering classes in your area. THAT is the best way to learn,

books and the internet are good for reference material and information not for actual training.
