Best fighting technique for me to learn?
I'm a pilot, teacher, and nursing student. I hope to spend my life serving in some of the darkest, most forgotten places in the world. Because I am a young female, I'd really like to have some self-defense skills. I am very athletic and strong for a girl of my size (130, 5'6''). I'm looking for the toughest, best training I can receive. What would be the best? Karate, Kung fu, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, trained by a Navy Seal? I'd love to learn how to get out of situations where someone has a knife or gun too. I've been held up once. It'd be nice to have some training. Maybe people wouldn't get so upset at me jogging at night : ) Thanks for your help! (If someone could train me to be an 1/8th of what Liam Neeson was in Taken, that'd be great!)
If you have a proper Jeet Kune do expert,I'd suggest you to learn that.I have someone in my workplace who knows some of it and all the techniques are pretty simple to follow.
For a street fight you dont need to all those flashy flying kicks, you need to know what to do when you're confronted with someone who has a knife when you're alone, thats enough, that will do

Navy Seals Self Defense
I grew up Catholic, but not sure what the exact ethics are if I am an aspiring Navy SEAL and other military.?
I have always dreamed of being a defender, a soldier, and putting the risk of my life before others for security. Navy SEALs do unconventional warfare tactics, and classified as an "anti-terrorism" force, well one of the classifications. My question here is, does being a spec ops soldier that's catholic, have a one-way ticket to Hell? (Through the eyes of Catholics, which is what I am). I know there are phrases in the bible saying there are times for war, and self defense, but neither should be overused or more than necessary if the situation can't be resolved with peace first. I am a religious person, but I fear the consequences of killing others in defense of other's safety. I'm going to pursue this career no matter what anyone says..I was just curious. Thanks for your time.
If you have qualms, you have to do one of two things.
You have to sort it out in your head that you're probably going to have to do stuff that the purists in your religion frown on. And you have to be absolutely committed to doing them before the situation arises. Keep in mind that the purists more than likely have no knowledge of war or combat. It's easy to sit back and make arm-chair decisions and pass judgment like passing gas. But YOU have to be committed. You don't go out killing people on a spree. The politicians who pay lip service to peaceful coexistence and diplomacy are the guys who send you out. When you go out, peace is over and the time for diplomacy has passed. And you don't have the luxury of picking your missions. You don't have time to rationalize or to soul-search. You're ready to go... or you're not.
If you can't get it together going in, you have to consider another line of work. It doesn't make any difference what your dreams are. It doesn't make any difference what you want. You either have it... or you don't. If you're going to weigh everything you're ordered to do against some arbitrary code of ethics, you're not going to be able to function. In the military, you're not a Catholic who happens to be a soldier... you're a soldier (first and foremost) who happens to be Catholic.
If you pursue a combat military career (which a SEAL career is), while you're trying to sort stuff out in your head, some enemy is likely to take advantage of your hesitation and mess up your thought processes with a bullet.
Sorry to be so blunt. I was in combat about 14 years before getting promoted out of the action... and 11 years after that before I retired.
