Why does my bf-to-be always mention that there are other girls who would like to date him?

I have recently started seeing someone who I hope will become my boyfriend in the future. He is a very handsome young man - shouldn't I feel lucky?! but I don't, silly me... I don't because I see how other girls eye him as if he their fav desert on the menu. He has a tendency towards confirming our plans very last minute and sometimes there are long, unexplained lapses of silence - as in no texts, no calls, no emails - but then he always resurfaces and we have a blast of a time (no, we are not intimate yet). I asked him at some point whether he was dating someone else and he said no but then launched into a story on how pretty much every other girl wants a piece of him. The variation of the same story on how attractive he is to the "ladies" comes up pretty often. I am not a jealous type and I give him a lot of space but I can't understand why he brings up "others" so often. Any thoughts?

well for starters a confident man doesnt need to speak about the other girls he could get. confidence speaks for itself. maybe he is just a douche who trys to make himself seem cool because inside he a sorry lil man.haha. i dnt knw but thats not cool. maybe you should teach him a lesson andignore him for a lil bit and show him that hes not the pimp he thinks he is.haha
