How is Hapkido different from American Kenpo Karate?

How is Kajukenbo

Ed Parkers Kenpo Karate

and Hapkido different from each other in how they approach fighting, self defense, katas and rankings?

There are katas( we refer to them as forms) to learn in Kajukenbo, and Kajukenbo practitioners do their forms well, because they are pushed to do their forms with speed and power. But forms are not the most important things in Kajukenbo. When a beginner asks me what is the most important thing in Kajukenbo, I tell them the truth. You have to have a very high level of pain tolerance.

As for belt ranks, they differ from school to school, but most schools have the following colors: white, purple, blue, green, brown and then First Degree Black Belt. There isn`t a lot of colors, but it better that way. Most students do not advance from White Belt to Purple Belt. They usually drop out before that in a traditional Kajukenbo school.
