what kind of self defense (e.g. karate, jujitsu) is right for what i want.....?

hi , im a 16 year old girl and i want to join a self defense program that will help me to get out of bad situaitons, like a guy with a knife, or just a group of people.
i want to do something thats not so much like some japanese thing. like all the bowing and "karate chops"
more like punching and kicking, and being able to defend yourself agains being punched, or just generally attacked.

Krav Maga, a no nonsense self defense style.
It has no traditional 'bowing' and such and is all about reality self defense, using techniques that really work and are tested and proven on the battlefield.

Martial Arts/Self Defense For Women in San Jose/Bay Area?

Hi! I'm looking for a class similar to Jujitsu, preferably Danzan Ryu Jujitsu that could be or not necessarily aimed toward women, or self defense but wondered if anyone knew of anything fun in the area? Or any other martial arts classes that people could recommend? Thanks!
