Systema or Jujitsu (for realistic self defense)?
I know about Systema that it focuses on self defence, early neutralization of attack, attacking vital points, grappling, striking, joint locks, weapons disarm techniques, etc and all these are helpful. I have also heard that training in Systema for some months or one or two years can produce very good skills in you.
I want to know what about Jujitsu(japanese)? Does it provide all these aspects of fighting and realistic self defence? And how long training in jujitsu yields good self defense skills?
Also mention pros and cons of these arts if u know, and plz make any correction in the above lines I wrote if needed.
And suppose that only any one of those arts can be learnt, not both. Then what do u say!

Is a katana good for self defense?
My friend is very interested in Japanese culture.He doesn't watch anime, but he speaks fluent Japanese and practices real Ninjutsu.He has a katana.He carry's it on his back when he goes in bad neighborhoods and has one laying beside his bed for home defense.It's razor sharp and can kill someone with a good slash/stab to a vital point.Are they good for self defense?I am thinking about getting one for self defense.He said they are fantastic if you know how to use it.He said he can teach me some basics.So should i buy a katana or buy a gun?
Ex-Green Beret.... unless you know what you are doing....neither one of them is a good idea.... most often the bad guys will take it away from you and hurt you with it..... and the risk of accidentally killing the wrong person is there also...
Beyond all that....killing someone aint like the movies........ with a gun or knife you are likely not to kill him ....if the bullet goes through him it could hurt someone else....if they do die they often lose control of their bowels pee and crap on themselves.....there is lots of blood... just not something you will enjoy..... especially if the bad guy has a gun also...
Not big on tasers because the bad guy has to be close...... mace is a little better but not much....
suggest wasp spray.....shoots up to 20 feet....non-lethal.... and wont harm others if you miss
personally I just use my hands.... when you rip out an eye they lose a lot of enthusiasm
