Guns Self Defense

Blank Firing guns good for self defense?

Are they good for self defense? I know its a bad idea if they other person may have a real gun, but im talking just to scare someone off. Also is it legal to carry without a license?

It isn't a good idea. You might not always scare the person off. If they have a gun, they might pull it out and try to shoot you. Or if they have a knife, they might try to stab you. Some people are insane, and they will go up against a gun. And when your gun isn't real, it's not going to help you when the person isn't scared of it.

Always be prepared to shoot somebody if you pull out a gun. If you can't shoot them, you might as well not carry one around. A gun will only make the situation worse if it can't be used for self defense.

Whether or not you need a license to carry a gun depends on your state's laws. Some states do not require a license to carry a gun. Other states only require a license for concealed carry, while others require licenses for both open and concealed carry.

Does anyone know some sort of story about guns being used in self defense?

It's for my debate. This one person had said, "Bob Jones was on a shooting rampage, killing ten people in one hour, until he was stopped by John Smith, owner of a handgun." or something like that. Does anyone have something like that involving real people and please maybe a source?

I'll admit 2nd link might be biased on my part, but it doesn't change the facts of the cases presented. The 3rd link has some good info and I'd recommend you browse the site and find some articles to back up your argument.

Also as an FYI, the 2nd Amendment wasn't written with the intent of self defense against an intruder in your home or one's right to hunt with a firearm. It was written to ensure the rights of American citizens to be able to fight against the government should it become tyrnannical and try to take their rights from them. Self defense and hunting are just logical extensions of this right to bear arms.

The 4th link is provided just for clarification purposes on the 2nd Amendment. I would advise using the 2nd Amendment in your argument, be very clear and concise about it in your debate. Use facts to back up your arguments, not truths. One mans truth is another mans lies ... meaning, what I see as a truth may not be what you see as a truth and may seem like an outright falsehood to you. Logic will win about against emotion more often than not.
