Good Self Defense Moves
Where can I learn self-defense moves and tactics?
Does anyone here know where online i can learn self-defense techniques? I get into fights in school that i'd rather avoid, so I thought maybe i can just immobilize them and run away.
So any good sites that teaches self-defense techniques?
Yo guys, I get what you mean, but where i live (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) there anr tany REAL dojos or anything, but trust me a few tips and tricks will go a long way in my school, cause these kids arnt very bright.
The internet is a good place to learn ABOUT Martial Arts, but it is not a good place to LEARN Martial Arts.
Learning the proper way to execute the various kicks and punches found in any style of Martial Art requires the visual assessment and correction of an experienced instructor. That means the instructor must be present in order for him to see what you are doing wrong and correct it.
Only learning one or two things is not the solution. What if they don't work? Now you have sent a message to your opponent that you are ready and able to fight, when you are actually neither. If I am your opponent and you throw some technique at me that is obviously something that only a trained Martial Artist would throw, I am going to immediately assume you are a worthy opponent and I am going to respond with everything in my arsenal.
I know you think that if you can learn a couple of things, and as you put it, "Immobilize" them long enough for you to run away, that's all you need, but what if it doesn't work? What if you only succeed in pissing him off more, then what?

Looking for a good style for the streets, and strikes?
I've been looking for a good style for the street, and has strong strikes.
Im basically looking for a style that has strong, unique strikes, with blocks and defense mechanisms in the fight, and also that has some decent self defense moves.
I looked at krav maga, which seems awesome, but there are not any good schools in my area and I think im to young to learn it (15 years old). I also looked into muay thai, but its so similar to boxing, and i want a style with unique strikes and good blocks and counters...etc. Biggest problem with muay thai is is retardedly expensive here, 200$ for 3 months.
I really want to find a martial art I like, so I can start fast before i loose the will to do martial arts. I liked taekwondo, but supposedly it isn't practical for the streets, and has no blocks or self defense.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, as for schools, I think I can find almost any in or close to my area.
$200 for 3 months of muay thai is not "retardedly expensive", that's actually quite reasonable. Most martial arts gyms, whether it's traditional boxing, kick boxing, muay thai, brazilian jiu jitsu, whatever, will run around $75-125 per month for a single style. I.e. my gym offers BJJ for $100 per month, and Muay thai/Kick Boxing (mixed training) for $80...
Muay thai is a very effective striking style, and can be extremely devastating as a striking form. Fists can cause a lot of damage, but elbows are like axe's. You can't knock down a tree with a hammer, but you can cut one down with an axe! Taekwondo is also an effective striking style, but it's usually not as effective in a live fight as muay thai. TKD is often heavily engrained with sport fighting, or point sparring, so the strikes emphasized aren't aimed at destroying your opponent, while muay thai is strongly focused on doing as much damage with every strike as possible.
There is no singular best striking style, especially for self defense. Luckily, in most self defense scenarios, the attacker won't be very well trained, so it's easy to get the advantage. Unfortunately, attackers typically choose smaller, weaker victims than themselves, to increase their advantage. Being quick on your feet and adapting to the situation is critical. Being well trained in any style won't matter much if you get too scared and forget how to apply it.
