Should I get the nylon or kydex sheath for the SOG seal pup?

I can get it for the same price (in a package together with the actual SOG seal pup). Also, would anyone say getting the seal pup elite with black TiNi is worth an extra $30? I've looked at both blades and can't decide what makes the "elite" more "elite". The blade is going to be used as a camping/hiking/self-defense knife. Also, any other suggestions for similar or better knives?

Unless you're sneaking up on people in the dark, you don't need a blackened blade. In fact, there are times when a black blade can work against you. (signaling) As long as you don't use it, off-body, in freezing weather, Kydex is better than nylon. (The nylon sheath has a polymer lining, anyway.)

What do I think of the SOG? OK, I think the blade is too narrow, too hard, (Rockwell 57-59 is going to chip easily.) and I don't like the ill-defined haft. Personally, I want some kind of guard or deep indentation at the front of the handle. (Getting yourself cut when you're miles from anywhere can be tough.)

The final thing I don't like is the price. $100.00 bucks for that knife is way too much. If I were still running around in the woods with a knife on my belt, I'd want something that has high utility and is very serviceable.

If you can't easily skin an animal AND split (break) wood with your knife, then you shouldn't be carrying it in the woods. I wouldn't want to be stuck with either task if all I had to work with was that seal pup knife. It's a good small fighter; but, knifefighting isn't what it's all about - Correct.
