Crossbow Self Defense

Does anyone use a crossbow for home defense?

Just the other day, I was having a home defense discussion with someone I knew. We were talking about home defense and somehow, crossbows came into the discussion. I wanted to know if anyone actually used them for self-defense (at home).

It's not really practical. You can't keep it co cked all the time or you will ruin the prod. I don't know about you but I don't think I could wake up out of a dead sleep, grab the x'bow, get my foot in the stirrup an co ck it, fumble around for a bolt, get the vanes lined up properly, lay it in the track, all in the dark! with some evil doer in the house. After all that you only have one shot. No thanks. I'd rather have a flint lock pistol. I'll just grab the old Mossberg and rack the slide.

Would bolting someone invading my home with a pistol crossbow count as self defence?

(UK! LOOK HERE AMERICANAS! UK! ENGLAND SPECIFICALLY)

If an armed and dangerous man entered our house forcefully, and I discovered hime, armed with a 80lbs draw weight pistol crossbow, alerted him to my presence and then fired when he came at me with a knife or other dangerous weapon, would that be defense of home and property or would I go to jail for injuring someone, or man slaughter depending on body part I hit?

tl;dr: someone threatens me with a knife in my own house and I crossbow him in the leg.

The laws in england are kinda pedantic about this kind of thing, self defence seems to quickly turn into a court case in support of the scum invading your home.

As far as I know, yes it would count as self defense.
