Walther P22 for concealed carry?

My instructor for concealed handgun class highly recommended to use a 22 for concealed carry because its light and small. But ive heard a 22 is a really bad self defense weapon and i can see why but its still a gun. Ive also heard 22s can ricochet off of bones in the body causing more damage, is that true?

Im a big fan of .45s and would love to go with a Glock 30 or 36 but im kinda just looking for something small and kinda cheap to hold me off until i get enough money for a Glock.

If you would recommemed a 22, what one? Anyone know a cheap RELIABLE .45 that would be around the same price? ($300-$400) New or used, it doesnt matter.

your instructor should really be questioned. The .22LR cartridge CAN kill, but frequently it is from bleeding to death a few minutes after the target is shot...which unfortunately means there is plenty of time for the attacker to finish stabbing you to death and THEN die.

If the only handgun you ahve is a .22LR, or for some reason that is the only handgun you can control, then fine, but it is extremely less than ideal.

Further, while the P22 is smaller, it isn't really _small_ , in my experience folks who choose a decent sized handgun frequently carry it for a few months and then stop as it is too much of a hassle. I think getting a small compact handgun in .380 or so is going to be the best. Check out Kel Tec and Ruger is also offering a .380 for about $250 designed specifically for concealed carry. Combine that with a pocket holster and you are good.

Of course, get a serious full sized defensive handgun when you can, and if you are able to, carry that. But I think a year from now you will find youself carrying the 380 a lot more often./
