what is the best type of handgun to buy for self defense?

first of all, im not looking for something like thr s&w .500. that is just ridiculous i watched videos on youtube and people can barely even handle the recoil. i want something that will be powerfull enough to stop someone in there tracks but also be easy enough to shoot repeatedly without severe recoil.. i need some insight from you gun pros out there on a good choice

One that comes with a professional bodyguard. Any gun that will stop a psycho, ex-con (pumped) that you never saw coming from behind is going to be taken from you and used against you. This will get a LOT of thumbs down and somebody will say document this. I say document this as untrue.
Seriously, shoot the average person ready to do harm to you with a .32 ACP and he's going to laugh. He's way tougher than you imagine and he's been shot before by bigger guns. Anything more than a .32 is going to have a kick you will probably find objectionable.
Since you will get a gun and eventually become a statistic, remember to hold the gun as close to your body as possible, this will minimize the chance of him getting the gun slightly. Keep shooting until the magazine is empty. This way he can't shoot you with any empty gun and multiple shots will be needed to take him down. I guarantee only 1 or 2 shots out of 8 are going to find their mark. Then run away as fast as you can.

Best handgun for combat use and protection purposes?

As i have asked above, i am looking into getting a good handgun for self defense and if necessary, combat use, i want a good handgun with a lot of stopping power, i have heard that .45 ACP is one of the best for stopping power and was wandering if this be the case which handgun is best for firing this round, i appreciate any answer someone may have, p.s. i appreciate it if no one does the whole "if you don't know you don't need it answers, those bug me, anything that is actually trying to help me out i appreciate it^^

You might want to do more research before dumping money into a gun. There are gun ranges that will rent hand guns. A .45 isn't for everyone! The true secret to self defense is hours of shooting at the range. Proper bullet placement is the best "Stopping" power. Spraying bullets everywhere isn't. Caliber is important, but a well placed shot is the most important. Example, a .22LR shot to the heart or brain will do much more than a .45 ACP to the shoulder or hip of a perp.

I don't know where you live, but to be engaged in a "Combat"? That's even rare for Cops. In 30 years I've never had to pull my weapon for self defense. I have two Pitbulls as my first line of defense and my guns as the last and final line of defense, at home and the job site.
