Which is the best brand to buy a retractable/expandable baton?

I'm looking to buy a baton for self defense but I'm trying to buy a reliable one. And I don't know which brand has the best batons. Any help please?

is it illegal to carry an asp baton , or maglite for self-defense?

i currently have a 3 cell d maglite i carry around, because i dont live in the best of places, but i don't want to carry a knife anymore ,and brass knuckles are illegal, I'm not sure about the asp baton but if i get one i want to know if I'll be hassled for it by police, same with the maglite

You need to check with the laws for your state, county and city. Expanding batons are excellent tools, and are legal for civilians in some places, and illegal in others. Because you have not provided your location, no one can answer this question for you.

Your best starting point is to call your local police or sheriff, and ask the question. If they say it is illegal, ask for the law. MANY law enforcement people might mean well, but are simply wrong about the law, and will state that something is illegal when it is, in fact, perfectly legal. If they don't or won't provide the law reference, contact your state attorney general's office and ask them.

I agree with you that I would prefer to carry a baton instead of a knife. It is better to try to keep your distance if you can in a self defense situation. I have a couple Monadnock batons stashed around my house and take them with me sometimes when I travel.

The flashlight shouldn't be a problem. There is nothing illegal about carrying a flashlight, anywhere. I like the SureFire series, and have the 6PDL (which is kept right next to my Springfield XD subcompact 9mm most of the time).

Stay safe. Your best choice is ALWAYS to avoid places where you think you especially need to be carrying a weapon, anyway.
