What do i tell the family of the man i shot and killed in self defense?

He broke into my home and sought to harm me. I hit him in the face with the buttstock of a 12-gauge, I shot him in the leg. After he still kept advancing on me, I was forced to shoot him in the chest. I was never arrested as the detectives found all evidence points toward self defense. He has many brothers, A few children including a daughter who is my daughters age, connections to the mexican mafia, and he was my wifes boyfriend. He was abusing my own children. I still feel very sorry for his own kids. I dont believe they will ever come to understand my actions. I did start paying the child support for his youngest daughter (which he wasnt paying). the family may never understand no matter what you say or do- When you love someone you can be blind. all you can do is say you are sorry that it ever got to this stage and wish it had never happened, which I am sure is true.

Don't be beating yourself up about it - he was in the wrong.
