Selfd defence pistol?
I've been to many sites regarding this question... I live in south africa were crime is like eating your sandwich. Just last week they chopped someone up on a farm, the stories is endless. The new gun law is full of shit as we all know, so I'm looking for an alternative for self defense. Just to add I have a co2 air pallet pistol! Will it work or should I think of something els?
Maybe it's time to move to another country.

Air gun for nuisance animals and self defense?
(Disclaimer - I'm a 45 year old responsible adult. Responsible adult answers, please.)
I'm moving outside the city after several years of rat-racing. I used to shoot, but nothing major, just targets. And it's been about 15 years. We have a coyote issue every so often (they have taken neighbors animals), and our area has the odd break in now and then.
I'm not crazy about the idea of having a serious gun in the house, but I would like something to run of the coyotes when need be (they are pretty bold) and potentially stop someone in their tracks if I needed to. (Preferably without doing major damage.) CO2 pistol? PCP? Pellets? Ideally, I'd like a pistol.
Opinions? Ideas?
With all due respect, tree huggers and no-gun-whatsoever people, please butt out. No, I do not wish to kill a coyote. But I have no problem stinging it if need be.
For the most part, an air gun for self defense is useless. It may fool an undetermind attacker and scare them off, but if it doesn't, you are going to be wishing it was a real pistol. If you are worried about doing "major damage" to some criminal who is intent upon doing you harm after breaking in to your home, I'd suggest getting some of the bear sized cans of pepper spray used when camping in bear territory and hose them down with that.
As for coyotes, if they come really close to your house, you could use a cheap Daisy BB gun to sting them with a BB and run them off.
