Aikido For Self Defense

What lessons should I take for Self Defense?

What should I take to attack better and to defend myself... like evading a fast punch where can I learn thaT? what specific martial art? is it taekwondo or aikido? Muay Thai? a reply would be well appreciated thank you.. I would like a martial art that is offensive and defensive at the same time. tnx.

so far i have done 3 months of brazilian jiujitsu. i think it is an overall great martial art for conditioning, losing weight, and especially self defense. it allows practitioners to be able to protect themseve from stronger bigger opponents. also they teach people how to incapacitate a person using minimal damage. bjj involves jointlocks and chokes instead of striking. so in my opinion bjj is the best self defense

Do you need aggression to make Aikido practical for self-defense?

Do you need to use aggression (ie punches, kicks, eye gouges, arm breaks, strikes to the groin, biting, brutal tactics, attacking first) to make Aikido practical for self-defense?

Or, is it ok (or work better) to stay defensive? To use the evade-throw-pin process to control an attacker? To hurt him the least you can and focus more on controlling him instead? To use it's peaceful, humanitarian, way of thinking?

In Aikido, its defensive techniques are its offense. If no attack comes, then no technique is needed. You seem to have a lot of confusion about what Aikido is and is not.

Trust that it works, but is difficult to learn. More difficult than many other martial arts. But, it is worth the time and effort. If it did not work, it simply would not still exist and be practiced by many martial artists.
