most important factors making for change between 1877 and 1916?

I need help answering the question: Can anyone help?

Americans living in 1916 faced very different situations than their counterparts had known in 1877. For several specific social or economic groups, indicate (a) the most important factors making for change between 1877 and 1916 and (b) the way in which members of the group used politics in an effort to adapt to these new factors. Examples of groups: entrepreneurs, industrial workers, city dwellers, immigrants, African Americans, farmers, women. You are not limited to these examples.
