is 9mm subsonic 147 gr jacketed hollwpoint good for defense?

I want to know if the above-round is o.k. to use in a pistol for self defense-work, Is it powerfull enough? Does it work properly in that role?

Faster velocity=deeper penetration. You are already sacrificing size with a 9mm, why get rid of velocity as well. The 9mm advantage is in its speed.

Can I use shot shells in my 9mm for self defense?

I am interested in purchasing a 9mm for self defense in the home. I am ready and willing to use the gun but would prefer I not kill my intruder. Are there any options for me such as rubber bullets? Are shot shells recommended for this use?

i got shot on accident from about 15 feet with a .45acp cci shotshell... it hurt like hell and the doctor trip was not fun... but i still had it in me to beat my friend senseless. do not use that crap for self defense!even a 12 guage with birdshot is not a viable defense weapon, except in very close quarters, or when innocent people are at risk. like the others said... if you have to shoot, shoot to kill. good hollow points, winchester rangers if you can find them, remington gold sabres also have great stopping power,and feed reliably which i think is very important in a defense situation. go to ... internetarmory.com and look at ammo choices for defensive pistols. if you insist on less lethal, go for bear mace, or a taser. a 12 guage loaded with bean bags will stop a man too, but you better have something more deadly to make sure the intruder stays down... like a "00" buckshot pointed at his head. protection is important, i dont ever want to hurt anyone... but if they want to hurt me, they are eating hot lead!
